FIELD NOTES // 018 - The Truth About Balance
They’ll tell you to find balance.
Like it’s some trophy for the disciplined —
a perfect blend of work, rest, and fulfillment.
But balance doesn’t build anything heavy.
Balance doesn’t get you out of bed before the sun.
Balance doesn’t keep you chasing something that keeps slipping away.
⸻
The truth is, balance is a myth we use to make peace with comfort.
It’s what we say when the weight gets hard to carry.
It’s what we whisper when no one’s looking,
hoping the universe gives us permission to ease up.
But if you’re trying to build something real —
something that lasts —
you won’t find balance.
You’ll find trade-offs.
Missed dinners.
Late nights.
Early mornings.
Seasons where the scale tilts hard toward the work.
⸻
They’ll call it unhealthy.
They’ll say you’re obsessed.
But obsession is what turns average into excellence.
It’s what takes “someday” and makes it real.
⸻
Balance doesn’t demand enough of you.
The weight does.
The work does.
And if you’re lucky — the mission does too.
⸻
The truth about balance:
It’s not about evening the scale.
It’s about knowing what’s worth tilting it for.
